Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to book?

Yes! Please book via our Booking Form or call us on 02 4081 2955

I’m a new patient, what do I need to know?

Your first treatment will include an initial consultation which helps us gain an understanding of your overall health. You’ll need approximately 90 minutes for your first treatment and 60 minutes for follow up appointments, although they can be shorter or longer depending on your needs.

We may use a range of Traditional Chinese Medicine techniques in your treatment, but we will talk you through each one and ensure you feel comfortable with the recommendation.

Is Acupuncture painful?

Typical needle sizes used in the clinic range from 0.15mm - 0.30mm in diameter. As a comparison, 20 acupuncture needles held together is approximately the same size as one hypodermic needle which is commonly used by doctors and nurses for injections/vaccinations. As a result, patients often feel no sensation when the needle is inserted, but sometimes there is a slight prick. When musculoskeletal release is needed, a trigger in the tight muscles can be felt.

In general, people will experience a free flow of energy or a subtle tingling feeling. It is common for patients to be so relaxed during the treatment that they fall asleep.

What can I expect after the treatment?

You will usually feel a sense of general wellbeing, relaxation and balance. Individual responses will vary, but most people experience an improvement in sleep, digestion and energy levels.

Some people experience a mild exacerbation of symptoms after the first treatment but this does subside and will be followed by an improvement in the condition over subsequent treatments.

How many treatments will I need?

The number of treatments depends on how severe and long-standing the condition you’re looking to treat is. Each patient responds differently to therapy. Some acute problems may only require a single treatment. You will be given some idea of how your body should respond in your initial consultation and you will certainly experience an improvement from your first few treatments.

Can I have Acupuncture during Pregnancy?

It is important that you tell your Acupuncturist if you are or may be pregnant. In most cases, acupuncture is great for women before, during and after pregnancy. It can help to prepare your body to conceive as well as help your body with the many physical and emotional changes experienced before, during and after your pregnancy including back pain, sciatica, pubic symphysis pain, morning sickness, low energy, inductions, milk production, mood changes, exhaustion, healing C-section scarring and a lot more.

Is Acupuncture the same as Dry Needling?

No! There are some similarities but it is definitely not the same thing. Dry Needling targets ‘trigger points’and can be used to assist in releasing tight muscles. Acupuncture helps to treat a much wider range of conditions. A qualified and registered Acupuncturist will have completed 4 years of study while a dry needling practitioner can become qualified after a weekend workshop.

What happens if I miss my appointment, arrived late or cancel my appointment?

When a client doesn't confirm or show up for their appointment that means another client has missed out on that spot. We require 24 hours notice for cancellation otherwise 50% of the standard fee will be charged. No show on the day will be 100% of the consultation fee. You will receive a confirmation reminder text 24 hours before your appointment.

If you arrive late your session will still finish at the scheduled time and you will be charged the standard fee.

Will my Health Fund cover the treatment?

Yes we have HICAPS. Most health funds are covered for Acupuncture so you can claim your payment electronically. Most fund ‘extras’ will cover a portion of your Acupuncture fee.
